ABOUT

Teralba’s Coilflo Compact Industrial Heat Exchangers Compact performance for industrial heat transfer applications.

In a coil-in-pot unit, the product or waste stream runs through an inner coil while the heating or cooling medium circulates through the surrounding jacket. Engineers can configure the unit for counterflow or parallel flow depending on the process, giving more control over thermal efficiency than a fixed-flow design. Because the footprint is small, this compact industrial heat exchanger suits oil & gas, mining and other sites where a full-scale exchanger system isn’t practical or needed.

Why Choose Teralba’s Coilflo Heat Exchangers

Setting the Standard in Compact Industrial Heat Transfer

Reliable Performance Under Pressure

Coilflo Heat Exchangers are designed for demanding industrial processes that involve high temperatures and pressures. Their robust design supports consistent heat transfer in tough operating environments.

Compact for Low-Flow Processing

The coil-in-pot configuration makes Coilflo ideal for low-flow applications where space and efficiency matter. Its compact footprint allows effective heating or cooling without requiring a large system setup.

Efficient Heating and Cooling Performance

Coilflo is designed to deliver efficient heating or cooling for smaller industrial flows. Its shell-and-coil configuration makes it practical for sites that need dependable thermal performance in a compact design.

Handles Thermal Expansion

The coiled heat transfer pipe acts like an expansion bellows, allowing the system to manage thermal expansion and contraction during operation. This supports safer, more stable performance over time.

BENEFITS & FEATURES

Minimal Maintenance

With gaskets only located on the inlet and outlet, Coilflo reduces common maintenance points. This helps minimise downtime and supports more reliable day-to-day operation.

Strong, Fully Seal-Welded Construction

Coilflo is built with fully seal-welded construction for long-term durability. This makes it suitable for heavy-duty industrial applications where reliability is essential.

Self-Draining When Mounted Vertically

When mounted vertically, the product flow path is self-draining. This supports easier process handling and helps reduce product retention after operation.

DESIGN

Coilflo is formed from a single coiled tube — 12.7 mm Ø for flows up to 200 L/hr, or 19 mm Ø for flows up to 1,000 L/hr — seated inside an outer shell that forms the jacket for the heating or cooling medium. All pressure-boundary joints are seal-welded rather than gasketed. Teralba can supply Coilflo with any connection type to suit your process, including flanged, threaded (BSP/NPT), Tri-Clamp/sanitary and welded connections.

Every unit is hydrostatically tested prior to dispatch, confirming it holds its rated pressure before it reaches site.

Coilflo is designed to Australian standards, including AS1210 where applicable. The specific hazard level rating is determined at quote stage, based on the application’s operating conditions.
  • Vertical mounting (self-draining) or horizontal mounting, depending on site layout
  • Insulation and cladding available for hot or cold surface protection
  • Can be supplied with a pressure relief valve (PRV) and associated componentry to suit

Inner tubes are 316 stainless steel as standard. Seamless tubing with an electropolished surface finish is also available, along with duplex alloy options for corrosive product streams. The same simple coil-in-pot principle behind this electropolished option has seen Coilflo units installed across a wide range of demanding facilities in Australia.

Coilflo Heat Exchangers for Natural Gas

Coilflo Heat Exchangers for Natural Gas

Teralba supplied two compact Coilflo® heat exchangers for a Queensland mining application, using waste heat from a hot natural gas stream to warm incoming gas arriving at temperatures as low as -10°C. Designed for high-pressure service and installed within the site’s existing footprint, the twin-unit system helped prevent hydrate formation and icing while providing essential redundancy for continuous gas conditioning.

    FAQS

    Coilflo Industrial Heat Exchangers

Our FAQs provide clear answers to common questions about Teralba’s industrial Coilflo industrial heat exchangers. From performance and maintenance to installation and lifespan, this section helps you understand how our systems deliver reliable heat transfer in demanding industrial environments.

What is a Coilflo Heat Exchanger?

A Coilflo Heat Exchanger is Teralba’s compact coil-in-pot unit, engineered for efficient heating or cooling of low-flow product streams, waste streams, and industrial process fluids. It features a shell-and-coil design, with one fluid passing through the inner coil and the heating or cooling medium circulating through the outer jacket.

How does a coil-in-pot heat exchanger work?

A coil-in-pot heat exchanger operates by directing the process fluid through a coiled inner tube, while the heating or cooling medium flows around the coil within the outer jacket. Heat transfers through the coil wall, keeping the fluids separate and enabling precise temperature control in industrial processes.

What is the difference between a shell and coil heat exchanger and a shell and tube heat exchanger?

A shell and tube heat exchanger uses straight tube bundles within a shell, while a shell and coil heat exchanger features a coiled tube inside an outer jacket. The coiled design offers a compact footprint, making it suitable for lower flow rates or space-constrained installations.

When should I choose a Coilflo Heat Exchanger?

A Coilflo Heat Exchanger is ideal for low-flow applications requiring reliable heating or cooling, particularly where space, durability, and low maintenance are priorities. It is well-suited for smaller product streams, waste streams, sampling, and compact process systems.

What industries use Coilflo Industrial Heat Exchangers?

Coilflo Heat Exchangers are used in industrial applications requiring low-flow heating or cooling. Typical uses include oil and petrochemical sampling, low-volume process heating or cooling, waste-stream temperature control, pilot-scale processing, and small product-flow duties.

What materials are available for Teralba Coilflo Heat Exchangers?

Coilflo Heat Exchangers feature 316 stainless steel inner coils as standard. Duplex alloy options are available for more corrosive products or demanding process conditions, depending on application requirements.

Can Coilflo Heat Exchangers be installed vertically?

Yes. Coilflo Heat Exchangers can be installed vertically. In this orientation, the product flow path is self-draining, which reduces product retention and simplifies post-operation handling.

Can Teralba customise Coilflo Heat Exchangers?

Yes. Teralba can engineer Coilflo Heat Exchangers to meet specific process requirements, product characteristics, site constraints, and heating or cooling needs. Each unit is selected and configured for its intended industrial application.

What standards is Coilflo designed to?

Coilflo is designed to Australian standards, including AS1210 where applicable. The hazard level rating depends on the specific application and is confirmed at quote stage.

What connection types are available, and can a pressure relief valve be fitted?

Teralba can supply Coilflo with any connection type to suit your process, including flanged, threaded (BSP/NPT), Tri-Clamp/sanitary and welded connections. A pressure relief valve and associated componentry can also be supplied to suit.
