2026 brings a significant milestone for Teralba, it marks our 50th year of designing, engineering and manufacturing trusted heat transfer solutions in Australia and around the globe.
What first began as a stainless-steel fabrication business manufacturing stainless steel pressure tanks for the Australian Wine Industry has evolved into a trusted supplier of heat transfer equipment for many process industries worldwide. Over five decades, Teralba has continued to evolve—developing distinctive products and practical solutions that set us apart from our competitors.

Strong Roots in the Australian Wine Industry
Teralba’s story begins in the late 1970s and early 1980s, during a period of rapid growth in the Australian wine industry. Our founder, Alan Baker, recognised a need for specialised stainless steel pressure vessels to support the production of sparkling wine. These early pressure tanks laid the foundation for Teralba’s reputation for quality fabrication and application-driven design.
Today, those roots remain firmly intact. Teralba still manufactures Vinpro® Pressure Tanks for the wine industry, continuing a product line that reflects our origins and long-standing connection to Australian winemaking.
Innovation Driven by Real Process Challenges
As those early pressure vessels were put into service, new challenges emerged. Keeping sediments suspended during fermentation required reliable mixing inside the tanks, which led to the development of integrated agitation solutions. This work became the foundation of the Mixquip brand—now a separate entity that continues to serve the global mixing and agitator market.

In the mid-1980s, another defining challenge shaped Teralba’s future. Alan was tasked with manufacturing a heat exchanger for a large Sydney winery, with one strict requirement: the exchanger had to create turbulence within the tubes. The winery was cooling grape must and found that conventional plain-tube heat exchangers allowed solids to settle, resulting in inconsistent cooling and poor performance.
Solving this problem required a new way of thinking about heat transfer—one focused on turbulence, consistency, and real-world operating conditions. That project would ultimately help shape Teralba’s Dimpleflo Technology – the dimpled tube heat exchanger.
Over the last 50 years, Teralba has grown well beyond its beginnings as a fabrication company. While stainless steel craftsmanship remains central to what we do, our focus has expanded into advanced heat transfer technologies, including heat exchangers and our proprietary Dimpleflo® heat transfer systems.
Today, Teralba supports customers across many process industries worldwide, delivering reliable, application-specific solutions built on decades of practical experience. While our product range has expanded, our approach remains the same—engineering equipment that works in demanding environments and solves real operational challenges.
As we celebrate 50 years, we’re proud of where we started, grateful to the customers who have shaped our journey, and excited about what lies ahead.
Our Company Directors reflect on what has guided Teralba over the past five decades:
Stan Baker, Senior Director
“I started with Teralba in 1985, straight out of high school, and what I learned early on is that customers don’t remember what you promised — they remember what you delivered and what worked. Over the years, I’ve seen our equipment go into some very difficult applications, especially in food and beverage, where products foul, behave unpredictably, or push systems hard. When that equipment keeps performing, that’s when trust is built. For me, trust isn’t a slogan. It’s what happens months and years after installation, when the plant is running and the process depends on you.”
Andrew Baker, Managing Director
“Teralba’s direction has always been shaped by the reality of process challenges. From the early pressure vessels with cooling jackets through to Dimpleflo heat exchangers, the focus has been on reliable heat transfer under real operating conditions. We’ve learned that consistency over time matters more than chasing theoretical performance. As Managing Director, my responsibility is to protect that focus — careful engineering, sound manufacturing, and decisions that support long-term reliability. That’s how trust has been earned over 50 years, and that’s how we intend to continue.”
As Teralba marks 50 years, our focus remains firmly on the future of heat transfer. As global process industries evolve, efficiency expectations continue to rise, cleaning standards tighten, and the cost of downtime increases. In this environment, the need for trusted, reliable heat transfer solutions has never been greater. Teralba remains committed to engineering for real-world operation, delivering consistent performance, supporting long-term reliability, and earning trust through results.
